Foot Drop

About Foot Drop

Foot drop is the inability to lift the front part of your foot, causing it to drag on the ground when you walk. It often results from damage to the peroneal nerve near the knee or from underlying neurological conditions. You may feel weakness in your ankle and toes, making stairs, uneven surfaces, or even flat ground a challenge.

Symptoms

  • Difficulty lifting front part of foot (“steppage gait”)
  • Foot dragging on ground when walking
  • Numbness or tingling on top of foot
  • Weakness in ankle dorsiflexion
  • Frequent tripping or stumbling
