Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in your body gets pinched or irritated. You may feel a sharp, shooting pain that starts in the lower back or buttock and travels down the back of one leg. It can also cause numbness, tingling, or weakness in the affected leg or foot.

  • Sharp, shooting pain from lower back down one leg
  • Numbness or tingling in buttock, leg or foot
  • Muscle weakness in affected leg
  • Pain aggravated by sitting or bending
  • Difficulty standing up or walking
