Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a brain condition marked by repeated seizures. Seizures happen when groups of nerve cells in the brain fire too quickly or in the wrong pattern. This can cause brief lapses in awareness, uncontrolled jerking of arms or legs, or unusual sensations and emotions.

S.A.F.E. Seizure First‑Aid

Stay calm & Start timing

Note when the seizure begins and stay with the person.

Alert help

Call for emergency services if the seizure lasts too long (over 5 minutes) or if it's their first seizure.

Floor & free of hazards

Gently guide them to the ground and move sharp or hard objects away.

Ensure airway & turn on side

Loosen tight clothing, place something soft under their head, and gently roll them onto their side so they can breathe more easily.

When to Consult a Doctor

If you or a family member has experienced a seizure whether a once or repeated episodes a doctor’s evaluation is essential. Seek medical advice if seizures last longer than a minute, occur in clusters, or are followed by confusion. Early assessment helps identify the cause and start treatment that can greatly reduce seizure frequency and improve quality of life.
