About Facial Palsy

Facial palsy is sudden weakness or paralysis of the muscles on one side of the face. You may notice drooping of the mouth, difficulty closing your eye, or loss of facial expression. It can result from nerve inflammation, viral infection, or compression of the facial nerve.

Symptoms

  • Sudden drooping of one side of face
  • Inability to close eye or control eyebrow movement
  • Drooling or difficulty handling saliva
  • Impaired smiling or frowning on affected side
  • Altered taste or ear pain
